Cake Decoration-Fondant Icing

Hiya, today i want us to look at cake decoration ,another interesting and money spinning vocation and not what better way than with Fondant Icing, the most popular way to decorate cakes nowadays.

Fondant (UK: /ˈfɒndənt/, US: /ˈfɑndənt/ or /ˈfɑndɑnt/, from the French: /fɔ̃.dɑ̃/) is one of several kinds of icing-like substance used to decorate or sculpt pastries. The word, in French, means "melting", coming from the same root as "foundry" in English.

Fondant icing is made from sugar, water and cream of tartar or liquid glucose, which are boiled together until the syrup reaches what is called soft ball stage (when a spoonful of the sugar syrup is dropped into a bowl of cold water and forms a soft ball when rolled between the fingers). The mixture is kneaded into a smooth dough and then colourings or flavours such as peppermint, lemon or coffee can be added. Fondant icing can be rolled into shapes to make sweets or used warm and poured into moulds then coated in melted chocolate.

In recent years, rolled fondant has become a more popular way to decorate cakes. It is seen as much easier to use, as well as to be creative with, than the butter cream icing traditionally used to decorate cakes. There are several different brands of fondant, and they can be found in major retailers as well as in specialty cake stores or craft stores. Alternatively, numerous recipes for making homemade fondant are available

Watch the video i attached on my second blog on :-Pastry Decorating : How to Put Fondant Decorations on a Wedding Cake  and as usual, let me know what u think.
